At an early age, Carl exhibited a love for drawing and art. However, it was watching his father take pictures with an old Minolta, 35 mm film SLR that drew his attention to photography. By junior high school, his drawing skills improved and he learned the art of calligraphy, using it to open a small business addressing envelopes as well as creating framed works of written poetry and imagery. Over the past several years he met several friends who also had an interest in photography. Together they photographed many subjects, helped each other learn how to expose images properly, taught each other digital image processing techniques, and supported each others, work and projects. Carl studied engineering mathematics at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida and Fine Arts and Design Studies at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, New York. It was during his studies at LaGuardia that he found a happy marriage of mathematics and art and also took his first classes specifically in photography. As someone who enjoys working with his hands, he fell in love with the dark room, film developing process, and printing and took on a new found appreciation of photography as an art form. He continues to explore and grow in skill within the art form and seeks new opportunities to build positive relationships and help others using photography.
